So if you follow us on facebook, you probably know that we have a very big weekend ahead of us. We're rebranding the club, with the new name, blog and facebook page being launched officially on Sunday.
To celebrate the relaunch/rebranding of the club, we will also have a pop up retro beauty stall at the Pure Vintage fair on Sunday, with a make up artist and a hair dresser on hand to do some vintage make overs, so do make sure to swing by the market and particularly our stall!
Would anyone like a sneak peak at our new fancy name?

Fornightly Femme

Hello lovely readers. Welcome to the latest installment of the fortnightly femme. We managed to miss an installment not so long ago, so I do hope you will forgive us.
As you hopefully know, the fortnightly femme is an interview with a lady who personifies the ethos of the Ladies Dress & Dish through her love of vintage. She doesn't have to be someone with perfectly marcel waved her, scarlet lipstick with an expertly drawn cupid's bow, dressing in only original vintage all day every day and knows everything about some vintage designer perhaps only 5 other people have ever heard about. The fortnightly femme is someone very real just like you and me, who loves vintage things in their own way; be it dressing in their granny's old clothes, collecting old teapots or listening to Billie Holiday.
This time around our femme is a friend of mine for many many years, our very own Chiara who writes the Kitchen Corner feature. So without further a do, I shall leave you to our very own modern day Betty Crocker.

Granny Knows Best - Table Manners
1. Make sure you sit up straight and don't put your elbows on the table. No one likes a sloucher. It's not a good look.
2. Place your napkin on your lap while eating then at the end of your meal, lay it beside your plate - don't fold it up.
3. The usual procedure for cutlery is to work from the outside inwards, but if you are ever in doubt, wait and watch what the first few people who start eating do.
4. Never, never dip or break your bread bread up in your soup. The correct thing to do is to put your bread on the side plate and break off bite sized pieces one at a time then butter each before you eat it.
5. Don't stuff your mouth full of food and don't talk with your mouth full. Seeing the contents of your mouth may well put the person opposite you off their meal.
6. While you are eating your meal, when putting down your cutlery, lay your knife and fork down with the prongs downwards and at an angle. Then when you have finished eating, place them side by side with the prongs of the fork pointing upwards in the 4 o'clock position (European style) or the 5 o'clock position (American) to indicate to your waiter/host that you have finished.
7. Make sure you hold your cutlery correctly! Don't hold them like pencils - make sure the handle of both your knife and fork are buried in the palm of your hand.
8. Never smoke during a meal - it is extremely bad manners. If you're absolutely gasping, wait until everyone has finished before you ask permission to smoke.
9. It's also very bad manners to reach over your fellow diners to pick up food or other items at the table. If you need something that is out of your reach, ask a fellow diner nearer to it to pass it to you.
10. Now we'll finish with the biggest no-no of table manners that I know. If someone is good enough to feed you then you eat what you are given! When I was a girl, people didn't have alot of food, so if you were given food by your host (even if you could spot a hair in it off the chin of the woman of the house) it was still considered the height of rudeness to refuse the food.

The Fortnightly Fella
The current installment of the Fornightly Femme is funnily enough a fortnight late in being posted to the site, so sincerest apologies. Tonsilitis, wisdom teeth pains, crazy hours in work and a cat that keeps trying to use my shoes as a toilet has thrown the past couple of weeks a bit off kilter. I would like to make it up to you though, so this weekend, we have 2 Fornightly interviews to post up.
The first of which gives me the great pleasure of mixing things up a little bit.
For this particular installment instead of our usual lady we have the pleasure of talking to our first fortnightly fella. He's a lovely rockabilly gent by the name of Tim and perhaps one of the most striking things when you get talking to him other than his sleeve of tattoos is his charming English accent. I first met him about a year ago when we were filming an ad for Vodafone, where Tim was playing his double bass and I was bopping along to the good tunes while chowing down on free pizza and beer. He's a very talented double bassist who has performed with countless bands and artists in Dublin. He collects old timey tattoos and has an impressive collection of band tshirts. To share a lesser known fact about him, Tim plays every Thursday night from 9 til 11 in Sean MacD's pub in Harold's Cross. It's well worth the trip out to see him play, enjoy a couple of drinks and then the bus stop back to town is right across the road with 5 bus routes to choose from to get you on your way home.
But without further a-do, here is Tim.

Granny Knows Best - Rules for Serving a Formal Meal
1. Make sure everything that will be needed is already on the table at the beginning of your meal. This includes condiments, butter, water, salt & pepper, etc.
2. Your dishes should be warming in the oven before you serve and make sure you keep your food pipping hot. Everyone has seen people mark down their host in Come Dine With Me for serving cold food - so don't let that be you!
3. Serve food from dishes at the table rather than filling up your guests plates in the kitchen.
4. When serving your guests, serve from the left and take away from the right. But remember
wine and water are served and also removed from the right.
5. At the end of your main course remove all condiments, serving dishes, etc., from your dinning table so that it is clear for the next course.
6. Similarly, after dessert is finished, remove all dishes and condiments, etc., from the table so you have a lovely clear table to serve coffee.

Kitchen Corner
Its been a while since I last posted, work has just been mental busy on a plus note though I have manged to come across a oh so simple recipie for that something chocolately that might take your fancy. It can be made and ready to eat in less than 15 min and keeps for 3 or 4 days in the fridge, that is if you can put it away!! I think it is my new favorite dessert at the moment.
Easy Peasey Choc Mousse
Ingredients
Choclate 53% - 225g
Cream - 300ml
Whole Eggs - 2
Ameretto
Equipment
3 bowls
Pot or Microwave
Electric whisk
Hand whisk
You can make this using a hand whisk but it will just take a little longer, although if you are lucky to have one of those old school hand whisks with the wheely thing it'll take a little less time.
Happy Making, Enjoy!

Granny Knows Best
If your shoes get wet in the rain never dry them in front of a fire or right beside a radiator. You should instead stuff them with dry newspaper and leave them to dry naturally in a warm room. Don't attempt to polish them afterwards until they are quite dry.
