The Pure Vintage Fair

Last weekend saw Dublin's first Pure Vintage Market in New Market Place off Cork Street. You might already be familiar with the venue from being the home to a previous incarnation of the Ferocious Mingle Market or it's current use as home to the Dublin Food Co-Op and the monthly Dublin Flea Market.

The morning itself was beautifully sunny and crisp. Perfect for getting you out of the house because it's beautifully sunny, but nippy enough to not make you want to spend all day outside. Stall holders were in good spirits and those who came in for a gander had their curiosity rewarded with a wide range of vintage items on offer, from old rouge and foundation compacts, table cloths, clothes, jewellery and of course, house hold bric a brac. There was even a whole room dedicated to gorgeous furniture, artwork and household items.

Fornightly Femme

Welcome to our third instalment of the Fortnightly Femme! Every fortnight, we'll post a new interview with a beautiful lady from the Irish vintage scene who we think personifies the ethos of the Ladies Dress & Dish. She'll be someone with a love and appreciation of vintage things with her own distinct sense of style.

This time around, we would like to introduce you to a young lady called a called Sarah Griffin. Sarah is a spoken word performer, writer in residence and published poet. Her first book of poetry, Follies, was published last year. She is also used to be one of the organisers of 'Scarleh for yer Ma fer havin' yeh', a Dublin cringe event where people take turns to read out extracts from their teenage diaries.

Firstly could you tell us a little about yourself?
I am remarkably bad at this part of proceedings - I’m a performance poet by night and a creative writing teacher by day and a writer of lots of different things. My first collection of poetry was published last year and I’ve gigged all around Ireland, and in New York one time, too. I hate the idea of listing off my C.V, that’s probably very dull to read, so I should surmise: I love cooking, making things up, inky pens, creative swearing and detective stories. I’m moving to San Francisco in less than a month, that’s an important thing to say.

Well for a little while it seemed like summer had come early, the days were long and sunny, the heat was almost uncomfortable. But now we're back to blustery April weather, the bitter cold, soaking rain and (depending on where you live) snow. So our resident aspiring Betty Crocker, Chiara, has a recipe to share with us that will brighten your day and give you something to look forward to when the summer finally returns. It's a multi-purpose recipe. Not only practical for baking and cooking but also drinkable, delicious and will make your drawers smell divine!

Home Made Vanilla Essence

What you'll need - Vodka, vanilla pods, newspaper, cling film, a dark storage place and some patience.

The Fornightly Femme

Welcome to the 2nd instalment of our new feature The Fortnightly Femme! Every fortnight, we'll post a new interview with a beautiful lady from the Irish vintage scene who we think personifies the ethos of the Ladies Dress & Dish. She'll be someone with a love and appreciation of all things vintage with her own distinct sense of style.

This time we have the pleasure of talking to our lovely blog contributor, Lily Afuera, who is possibly the only señorita in Madrid wearing high heels everyday.

I've had the pleasure of calling her a friend for a few years now. We met through college where we spent a very memorable year working together in the Students' Union. Since then she has relocated to Madrid for an Erasmus year and despite not even being in different country she has proven herself to be indispensable to the Dress & Dish club, giving encouragement, her time and invaluable advice. She is definitely a lady of substance, character and charm so I am very glad she agreed to be our new Fornightly Femme.

Outfit of the week...

This week we're drooling over a gorgeous outfit from Swopshop Temple Bar. We think this stunning Bettie Paige dress together with these gold shoes could add a touch of class and sparkle to any office or party. This would be the perfect outfit for going from work to an evening out with the girls or perhaps your beau. It's a very lucky lady who ends up owning these two pieces!

Pure Vintage Fair

An absolute must for lovers of all things vintage!
